New UWIC Table Tennis Academy To Open


A new table tennis schools academy will be starting in February at UWIC to enhance the relationship the TTAW has with one of Britain's best Universities.

South Wales Regional Coach Simon Oyler will become the Head Coach at the New Academy which will see huge numbers of participants, Which will become the Third Table Tennis Academy to Open in the Capitol of Wales.
 
Sessions will run on Wednesday from 2nd February 2011

Dragon Grand Prix Round 2 Preview

Sunday 28th November is the date for Round Two of the Dragon Grand Prix Series at the Sport Wales National Centre.

This sees 5 players from Cathay's Academy and 6 players from the New Whitchurch Academy take to the table to try and set their sights on the Grand Prix Series Titles.

Results will follow tomorrow!

New - Glamorgon Super League

A new Glamorgan superleague will take place at Nantymoel on the 5th December. It will cost £5 per person to enter and will offer table tennis of a high level which is essential for improvement. A "big" prize fund will be given out each night which will attract top players from not only Wales but maybe England also. Ideal opportunity to have a crack at some of the top players and show them what you can do!!

Bristol Grand Prix

Dan O’Connell had his best grand prix to date with a Q-Final spot in the men’s open singles. There he met Neil Charles who was on form and could have beat number 1 seed Gavin Rumgay in the S-Final. Rumgay eventually won that game 3-2 but lost to Ryan Jenkins in the final 0-3. It was Ryan’s second win against the number 1 Scottish International from Perth this season at the Grand Prix series.
Dan also reached the semi final of the band 1 losing to Alim Hirji 0-3 and won the band 2 event. Conor Edwards was a runner up in the band 4 event but had a good run in the U21 singles. He was also a semi finalist in band 5. Charlotte lost in the Q-Finals of both band 1 and women singles.
Angharad Phillips lost a close 1-3 to England number 3 Hannah Hicks in the women’s singles and the band 2 final to Yolanda King the previous day. Megan, who had 2 battles with her sister (won 1 lost 1), lost in the S-Final of the U21 singles today and lost in the Q-Final of band 1 yesterday. Meg was unfortunate not to beat Guernsey’s Alice Loveridge having had 3 match points.
Lewis Williams lost in the band 3 final to James Ward 0-3 and played very well the 2nd day with some fine wins throughout.
Other players to compete well from Wales were Dean and Scott Cundy, Nicole Hall, Stefan Jeczalik, Alex Prosser, Nathan Thomas, Julie Furber, Neil Wright, Ceri James, Alex O’Connell and Max Clews.

South Conference League

South Wales Conference League has come to the final matches in the first Session of the Season.

Cathay's Academy A are standing second in Division 3 and are looking to secure promotion back into Division 2, Cathay's C are standing joint top and have secured promotion into Division 3 with Cathay's B just behind in 3rd position.

Team Championships of Wales Weekend 2 Preview

Cathays will be taking to the courts again on November 21st and will be itching to better themselves this time around, With both teams finding the going tough in the previous weekend on the Team Championships of Wales losing 6 out of 6 team matches the squad will be looking to get of the mark with wins and climb back up the table.

Tom Goodall showed some great stuff last time around coming away with some good wins, Beating Welsh players Ashley Perry, Liam Winders and Thomas Hayden and Narrowly losing to Max Clews 11-13 in the 5th Set.

New Academy Launched

Whitchurch High School have become the newest school in the Capitol to set up a Table Tennis Academy.
This was set up by the TTAW Development coach Simon Oyler, with the help of 5x60 officer at Whitchurch and National coach Ryan Jenkins. It is a huge School with over 2300 pupils attending.

Sessions have been running every week and have been producing huge numbers and is already showing some good potential. Last month 7 players from the school took part in the Dragon Grand Prix event run by TTAW at the Sport Wales National Centre.
On November 28th 8 players from wchitchurch will be taking part in the 2nd Dragon Grand Prix of the Season and are looking to gain some experiance to push on their levels of participation.
