South Africa Visit Cathays High Academy
South Africa may be at the centre of the football world at the moment, but pupils at a Cardiff school have been pitting their wits against some of the country’s other top sporting stars.

Ryan Jenkins, 31, from the Rhondda Valleys is the Table Tennis Association of Wales (TTAW) National Coach. Still playing at the highest level, after a glittering career as a top ranked international player, Jenkins took some time out from his busy schedule for some table time with Sport Wales to give his spin on what’s happening in the world of Welsh Table Tennis.

South Africa Visit Cathays Table Tennis Academy
On Thursday 10th June the South Afircan Table Tennis Squad will Visit Cathays High School Table Tennis Academy.
They are Currently in Wales playing test matches against the Welsh Squad in their preparation for the Commonwealth Games.
They will be putting on an Exhibition, practising with the young players from the Academy, and also giving them some tips and guidence for the future of our young stars.
This will be taking place at Lunchtime in the School Gymnasium.
Please come along and see some Top Players preparing for the Commonwealth Games 2010 in India

Wales Vs South Africa First Test Match!
The First Test Match Between Wales and South Africa was played today Wednesday 9th June at the Sport Wales National Centre.
With Wales having their top players away it was up to Welsh Number 2 and National coach Ryan Jenkins, Patrick Thomas and Simon Oyler to produce the goods for the Welsh Team.
Ryan got Wales of to a great start beating South African Number 2 Theo Cogill 3-1.
Patrick then went up against the Springbox Number 1 Shane Overmayer and lost in 3 close games 11-7,11-8,11-7, making the match 1-1.
Simon Oyler then stepped up against Luke Abrahams, After being 9-7 up in the first Luke pulled it back to win 11-9. The second game proved to be even closer, with the score tied at 10-10 Luke held on to win 12-10, and grew in confidence to take the next set 11-5.
Ryan then stepped up and took down the Number 1 Shane Overmayer 3-0.
This tied the game at 2-2, so it was down to the last match between Patrick Thomas and Theo Cogill,
Theo took the first game 11-6, Then Patrick stepped up his game and took the 2nd 11-5 after playing some great table tennis, in the 3rd it was a closely fought match but the South African stepped up his game to take the 3rd and then the 4th after playing some outstanding shots.
This ment the first Test Match went to South Africa.
Final Score Wales 2-3 South Africa
The Second Test will be played Tomorrow Thursday 10th June.

Half Term Training Camps
Through the half term Cathays Academy Head Coach Simon Oyler is running a Two Day Training Camp for players from across South Wales to attend.
Training will include, Bat Skills, Exercises and Fun Games.
Open to all Junior Players Across Cardiff, Bridgend and Rhondda Valleys
Why not take this opportunity to practise and improve your table tennis skills!!

I Am A EuroKid !!
Laura Edwards and Jac Jenkins have completed their week long training at the Olympic centre in Lugnano, Italy at the EuroKids Camp with 70 other players.
Laura won the consolation singles at the Friday tournament, finishing 13th. Jac finished 18th beating Irish and Malta opponents.
The camp was taken by Croatian coach Branka Batinic

Welsh Secondary Schools Championships
Lee Morgan and Charlotte Carey confirmed their places for the Welsh team in the UK School Games in September as they won the boys and girls singles respectively today at the Sport Wales National Centre.
Having got through his group unscathed, Lee played Steve Fawkes (3-1) in round 1, Ashley Stravakis (3-1) in round 2 and then Matt Lancey in the semi finals (3-1). Conor Edwards meanwhile was making way in the other half of the draw with 5 set battles against Stefan Jeczalik in round 1, and Chris Griffiths in the Q final. Chris had two match points in the 5th end. Conor then faced number 1 seed Josh Jenkins in his semi final. Conor managed to stay close to the table and exchange spins with Josh that forced too many errors from the Swansea player and Conor moved into the final winning 3-2.
In the final Conor had plenty of chances but failed to put away the high balls he was given. Lee upped the quality in the 4th and 5th sets to win the event and book his place to Gateshead for the School Games.
Other notable wins was from Ryan Oyler against Jared Parsons in round 1.
Charlotte won the girls competition against Hannah Avery 3-0 in their final. Hannah beat Nicole Hall 3-2 in the semi final whilst Charlotte beat Sadie Edwards 3-0. Nicole had a chance in the group against Charlotte at 2-2 in sets, but the Ebbw Vale star found extra motivation to win the 5th set comfortably.
Nantymoel’s Sharlene Williams beat Greenhouse girl Naomi James 3-1 in the girls’ consolation event. Cathays High player Inthrayut Kongchun was victorious against 11 year old Callum Evans of Tonyrefail 3-1 in the boy’s consolation final.

Team Championships of Wales
Bridgend A regained their Welsh Team titles again in the top Junior and Senior Divisions, with Greenhouse TTK taking Runners up Spots in both team events.
In Division 2 of Juniors TTK Greenhouse took the top 3 spots with Tonyrefial taking 1st place, 2nd place going to Tonypandy and Ferndale finishing in 3rd place.
TTk Greenhouse took the top 3 Spots again in Division 3 of the Junior Chanmpionships with Cardiff Centre of Excellence Squad members Liam Winders and Ethan Lewis along with Steven Fawkes taking the title back to Ferndale for the B Team, Tonyrefail claimed Runners Up spot with Ferndale C gaining a valuable 3rd spot.
Division 4 of the Team Chamnpionships of Wales went to Cardiff based Cathays Academy after they piped TTK Greenhouse Tonypandy B to the title in the Final match going to Cathays 4-3.
This has been a great and successful season for Clubs in the South Wales Area.

Cathays Crowned Champions!!
Cathays High School Academy where crowned Champions of Division 4 of the Team Championships of Wales 2010.
Cathays Cardiff team consisting of Tom Goodall, Inthrayut Kongchun, Emmanuel Olaoye and Kian Emadi played well all season and have now been rewarded for their hard work. This is a great achievement for Cathays Table Tennis Academy in their first season of the competition.

It all came down to the final day with Tonypandy tied at the top of the table with Cathays.
Cathays High beat local rivals Radyr 'A' 4-3 and sweeped aside North Gwent 'B' 7-0.
Tonypandy beat North Gwent 6-1 and fought back from 3-1 down to beat Radyr 'A' 4-3.
Cathays then faced Tonypandy to see who would be crowned Champions. It was Cathays who raced to a 2-0 lead with Tom Goodall and Inthrayut Kongchun winning there opening games, Tonypandy then pulled a game back with Rob Tyler of Tonypandy beating Kian Emadi to make it 2-1, Cathays then won the Doubles to make the score 3-1 in favour of Cathays. This ment one more win would hand the title to Cathays, Tom Goodall had a tough match against Naomi James and went down in a closely fought game to take away Tom Goodalls unbeaten record. Inthrayut Kongchun then Stepped up his game to beat Rob Tyler 3-0 to hand the title to Cathays Academy, Callum Evans pulled a consolation point back for Tonypandy to make the final score 4-3 to Cathays.
Tom Goodall also finished top of the Individual standings winning 19 Matches out of 20!
