Wales Prevail at Burton 1*Star
On Sunday 4th November the Cardiff Regional Squad travelled to Burton Uxbridge to compete in the 1*star Junior and Cadet Open.
Leaving at 5am in the morning it was always going to be a long day but the regional players really stepped up to the plate and performed extremely well.
The six players to make the trip where Huw Standen, Macauley Morgan, Alasdair Wier, Elliot Wienburg, Joshua Stacey and Joseph Roberts who had only got back home from the Namur Open In Belgium on Friday. These players where join by fellow Welsh contingents Lawrence John, Cade Short and 5 year old Anna Hursey.
All the players had some great results, with the pick of the bunch being Joseph Roberts finishing in 2nd place in the Under 11's and winning the Under 13's consolation after losing in a title battle in his group. Elliot also won the Cadet consolation beating team mate Huw Standen in the final whilst
Macauley Morgan qualified through his group but lost in the quarter finals of the main event.
In his first English tournament experience Joshua Stacey played some great table tennis and put up a great fight against more experienced opposition. Joshua Stacey has been playing for 8 months but already he is showing signs of becoming a very good young prospect for table tennis in Cardiff and Wales.
It was the same story in the Junior Event with Macauley qualifying through his group, this time he was followed by Elliot Wienburg, whilst Huw Standen lost out in 3rd position along with Alasdair Weir. In the Under 13;s event Joshua Stacey lost out in his group and then lost out in his group but took his first victory, he entered into the consolation event and was joined by team mate Joseph Roberts who went onto win.
