UKCC Level 3

Regional Development Coach Simon Oyler completed his 2nd weekend of his UKCC Level 3 on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July at Lilleshall National Sport Centre, England

This Weekend Included:

Athlete Programme Presentation
One 40 Minute Coachines Session
Match Captaincy
Performance Analysis

The next weekend of the course is January 14th and 15th where Simon will then qualify as a UKCC Level 3 Coach.

Welsh Secondary Schools Championships

The Welsh Secondary Schools came to Cardiff again on Sunday 12th June.

There was a great amount of players entered from Cardiff those all being from Cathays High School Academy and Whitchurch High School Academy.

Charlotte Carey and Lewis Williams (both of Glyncoed school in Ebbw Vale) won their respective events today in Cardiff. Charlotte beat Angharad Phillips in the girls final 3-0 whilst Lewis managed to overturn Conor in the boys final 3-2. Conor led 9-6in the deciding set but Lewis came back to take it 11-9

TTAW Awards Night

Last Night the annual TTAW awards were held in Cardiff to honour the people of the TTAW

The winners of the awards were as follows:

Cathays Academy Entertain Carmarthen

Cathays Table Tennis academy played host to a school from Carmarthen in a friendly match.

This was held on Thursday 9th June at Cathays High School and this proved to be a great match up and some great sportsmanship was shown.

The youngsters from Cathays consisting of five Year 8 players and one Year 9 and one Year 11 player took to the court against four players from Carmarthen.

This proved to be a very close match with two of Carmarthen players proving to be to strong for Cathays youngsters, but Cathays youngsters proved to be to strong for the two young players from Carmarthen. Cathays senior players played the two senior players of carmarthan and proved to be slightly to strong winning all their matches.

The match finished 13-11 in favour of Cathays Academy, A very close game and very entertaining match with both parties enjoying every second of the challenge.

Tom's A Table Tennis Leader

Thomas Goodall of Cathays High School Table Tennis Academy was one of 12 who attended the TTAW Table Tennis Leaders Award in Llanelli on Saturday 21st May.

This was the first of a New Table Tennis Leaders Award for the TTAW which includes:

  • Four Basic Strokes : Backhand and Forehand Drive, Backhand and Forehand Push
  • How to deliver these four bacis strokes
  • Good and Bad Practise
  • A Child Protection Workshop

Aswell as having the course tutor Barry Robertson for this award, all the participants where lucky enough to have National Coach Ryan Jenkins and Regional Development Coaches Simon Oyler and Aled Rhys Howell who where giving their own technical knowledge and sharing their coaching experiences, they where also shadowing Barry so that they can deliver their own Leaders Courses in their Areas. also present was Bernard Carter who is the TTAW Child Protection Officer, who delivered the Child Protection Workshop

Congratulations to Everyone on the Course

There will be many more courses to come this year across South Wales

World Championships on ITTv

Wales had 6 players representing their country and the Championships and did have some good results.
You will find the Welsh Wizard Ryan Jenkins up against the Duch Number 1 and also Naomi Owen and Charlote Carey in action.

EuroKids Meet Worlds Best

Last week Welsh Coach Simon Oyler made the trip to Rotterdam with Welsh Under 13's Players Jac Jenkins and Kate Roberts for another EuroKids Training Camp.

This was no ordinary EuroKids, This was held at the World Championships. Along with 40 other EuroKids players Jac and Kate got the chance to Watch the Whole of the World Championships and Had the opportunity to practise with some of the worlds grestest players such as Vladamir Samsonov, Jean-Michel Saive, Tamara Boros, Andrie Filimon, Daniela Dodean, Ni Xia Lian as well as have photos taken with the likes of World Champions Wang Hao and Werner Schlager, European Number 1 Timo Boll, Oh Sang Eun, and also the Greatest Two players Ever in Jan Ove Walnder and Liu Guoliang.

This was a great experiance for these Young Welsh Stars.

Cardiff Travel to West Wales

Regional Coaches Aled Rhys Howell from the West and Simon Oyler from South East held a Camp at Camarthen Leisure Centre in West Wales on Thursday 21st April.

There was 20 players attending with 7 players travelling from Cardiff and Merthyr to train with players from Camarthen, Llanelli and Swansea.

There was 4 hours of table practise for all the players, Which they got the chance to play against Chop, a robot, Multi Ball and also having a knock with two practise partners on the day in Vicky Skeats and Jason Peckham.


Well done to all the players for working hard and making the day enjoyable.

Welsh National Championships Under 11's and 13's

Some great Table Tennis was played at the Welsh National Championships this weekend.

Munir Gailani and Gethin Jones of cathays Table Tennis Academy reached the Quater Finals of the under 13's event losing out to Callum Evans (Finalist) and Jonathan Bisp (Semi-Finalist)

MacCauley Morgan of Whitchurch and Ayman Alkateeb of Cathays both lost in the Quater Finals of the Consulation Event in the Under 13's after losing out in there groups to top seeds Jac Jenkins and Callum Evans.

Jac Jenkins showed why he is following in his dads footsteps after played very well to beat Tonyrefail team mate Callum Evans in a 5 set thriller. This was Jacs first National Title (the first of many to come)

Laura Edwards also took her first National Title after beating Denbigh player and British Primary Champion Kate Roberts,

Welsh Championships Under 11's and 13's

This Sunday 17th April 2011 the Welsh National Under 11's and 13's Championships will be taking place at Sport Wales National Centre.

The Under 13's

Cathays Academy have three entries, those being Ayman Alkateeb, Munir Gailani and Gethin Jones. Whitchurch player MaCauley morgan will also be in attendance and will look to do his best along with the Cathays players in there first National Championships.
