Welsh Cadet Masters

Masters delight for Edwards & Jenkins

Laura Edwards of Abertillery swept the board in the girls event held at Sport Wales National Centre today. The day after her senior top 10 successes, Laura made easy work of her age group rivals to take the cash prize and ranking points on offer. Kate Roberts of Denbigh took Soffi Jenkins (Rhondda) in their match to finish 3rd. Victoria Brookes of Denbigh made 4th spot with wins over Lydia John & Bethany Brewer.

The boys event had a variety of players hoping to take 'Gold', but it was 13 year old Jac Jenkins who made the place his. After a tough 3-2 semi final match against Thomas Heydon of Swansea, where Tommy won the first set and had 10-9 in the second, Jenkins of Pontypridd won the final against Tonyrefail's Callum Evans, again 3-2. Thomas Heydon beat Lawrence John in the 3rd/4th place playoff 3-1, as Lawrence lost to Callum in their semi final showdown.

There were debuts from Louie Evans and Lara Whitton (both born in 2004) who showed great promise for the future. Those 2, along with Joseph Roberts of Cardiff and Anna Hursey (who is in China training this summer), give great hope to the Welsh table tennis future.
