Coaches are at the heart of sport – whether it’s on the sidelines at the FA Cup Final or at Saturday morning five-a-side. And that’s why Sports Wales wants to recognise people at all levels – including the coach who works morning, noon and night at your local club.
Chair of Sports Wales, Professor Laura McAllister explains:
“Coaches are the lifeblood of Welsh sport, we can’t do without them. The calibre of coaches I come across on a regularly basis is absolutely outstanding. This is the public’s chance to show their appreciation for the people who put in hours and hours of work across the country.”

Sainsbury UK School Games
With the gruelling summer programme complete, the attention now turns to the Sainsbury UK School Games which will take place the weekend of 3-5 September in Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland. Once the bank holiday weekend has passed the players and coaches will meet at Sport Wales National Centre for a 2 day training camp before flying to Newcastle.

Glamorgan County Closed Trials 2010
Nantymoel Boys and Girls Club will be hosting the Glamorgan County Trials 2010.
The Senior Event will be held on Saturday 4th September, Where as the Junior event is the following week on Saturday 11th September.
With the Winner and Highest places players will be put forward for selection to represent their county.

South Wales Conference League
Gwent & Glamorgan County Associations - in conjunction with TTAW - are pleased to announce that the SWC will be starting again probably the end of September (exact date to follow). Matches are played on a Sunday night; generally 4 sessions are played making a total of 20 Sundays over a season. Obviously this means it is not held every Sunday; there are occasional clashes with other events.
It is open to any pair within the region to enter. Entries may also (at management discretion) be accepted from a limited number outside the region
It is intended to cater for all ages - from under 9s to veterans! - and for all abilities - from beginners in the lower bands, to experts in the higher bands. There will be prize money awarded each 5 weeks for divisional winners. It is likely that 4 sessions will be completed over the season.
The competition can only happen, of course, if there is a sufficient number of teams’ entering therefore we would urge you to give consideration of combining with a friend, friends or even a family member to enter a team

Teams of two players. Each player plays two singles & a doubles
Central venue at WIS, Sophia Gardens, Cardiff - weekly on Sunday evenings
Banded - 6 teams in each band (or division)
The lowest 2 (or 3 if there are enough players, normally the younger ones) bands start at 6pm and finish at 7.30pm
The top 2 (or 3) bands start at 7.30 to finish around 9pm or shortly after
Promotion & relegation possibilities each 5 weeks
Players may be “borrowed” from teams in lower bands in case of difficulty
There will be a £10 per player registration fee and each player to pay a match fee of £3.00 each week
towards the cost of the venue
Cash prizes for all the divisional winners and division 1 runners up, equipment or cash prizes for other divisional winners

Cathays Summer Festival 2010
Cathays Summer Festival held from 21st July to 23rd July saw over 30 different participants taking part in the 3 Day Event.
On the Friday the Tournament took place.
The Year 7-9 event was played out and was won by Welsh Under 13s player Ryan Oyler. It was a closly fought match betwenn two players from Pontypridd High School Academy for Runner Up spot, Which was won by Ben Griffiths after beating Team Mate Jonathan Bisp 3-2.
On the Friday the Tournament took place.
Frank Powell - Davies who attends Albany road primary and is in Year 3 showed some impressive stuff to take the top prize after beating his sister Menna Powell Davies who finished 3rd and Alans Bank Hannan Malik finishing Runner Up.
Inthrayut proved to strong in the Year 10+ Event by beating Sadia Ahmad to top Spot. Nabila Ahmed finshing 3rd place.
Well Done to all participants at the Festival which proved to be a good event.

South Africa Visit Cathays High Academy
South Africa may be at the centre of the football world at the moment, but pupils at a Cardiff school have been pitting their wits against some of the country’s other top sporting stars.
Number one Shane Overmayer and his team-mates took a break from a Test series against Wales to visit Cathays High’s table tennis academy.

5 Minutes With National Coach ...
Ryan Jenkins, 31, from the Rhondda Valleys is the Table Tennis Association of Wales (TTAW) National Coach. Still playing at the highest level, after a glittering career as a top ranked international player, Jenkins took some time out from his busy schedule for some table time with Sport Wales to give his spin on what’s happening in the world of Welsh Table Tennis.

South Africa Visit Cathays Table Tennis Academy
On Thursday 10th June the South Afircan Table Tennis Squad will Visit Cathays High School Table Tennis Academy.
They are Currently in Wales playing test matches against the Welsh Squad in their preparation for the Commonwealth Games.
They will be putting on an Exhibition, practising with the young players from the Academy, and also giving them some tips and guidence for the future of our young stars.
This will be taking place at Lunchtime in the School Gymnasium.
Please come along and see some Top Players preparing for the Commonwealth Games 2010 in India

Wales Vs South Africa First Test Match!
The First Test Match Between Wales and South Africa was played today Wednesday 9th June at the Sport Wales National Centre.
With Wales having their top players away it was up to Welsh Number 2 and National coach Ryan Jenkins, Patrick Thomas and Simon Oyler to produce the goods for the Welsh Team.
Ryan got Wales of to a great start beating South African Number 2 Theo Cogill 3-1.
Patrick then went up against the Springbox Number 1 Shane Overmayer and lost in 3 close games 11-7,11-8,11-7, making the match 1-1.
Simon Oyler then stepped up against Luke Abrahams, After being 9-7 up in the first Luke pulled it back to win 11-9. The second game proved to be even closer, with the score tied at 10-10 Luke held on to win 12-10, and grew in confidence to take the next set 11-5.
Ryan then stepped up and took down the Number 1 Shane Overmayer 3-0.
This tied the game at 2-2, so it was down to the last match between Patrick Thomas and Theo Cogill,
Theo took the first game 11-6, Then Patrick stepped up his game and took the 2nd 11-5 after playing some great table tennis, in the 3rd it was a closely fought match but the South African stepped up his game to take the 3rd and then the 4th after playing some outstanding shots.
This ment the first Test Match went to South Africa.
Final Score Wales 2-3 South Africa
The Second Test will be played Tomorrow Thursday 10th June.

Half Term Training Camps
Through the half term Cathays Academy Head Coach Simon Oyler is running a Two Day Training Camp for players from across South Wales to attend.
Training will include, Bat Skills, Exercises and Fun Games.
Open to all Junior Players Across Cardiff, Bridgend and Rhondda Valleys
Why not take this opportunity to practise and improve your table tennis skills!!
