Bristol Grand Prix

Dan O’Connell had his best grand prix to date with a Q-Final spot in the men’s open singles. There he met Neil Charles who was on form and could have beat number 1 seed Gavin Rumgay in the S-Final. Rumgay eventually won that game 3-2 but lost to Ryan Jenkins in the final 0-3. It was Ryan’s second win against the number 1 Scottish International from Perth this season at the Grand Prix series.
Dan also reached the semi final of the band 1 losing to Alim Hirji 0-3 and won the band 2 event. Conor Edwards was a runner up in the band 4 event but had a good run in the U21 singles. He was also a semi finalist in band 5. Charlotte lost in the Q-Finals of both band 1 and women singles.
Angharad Phillips lost a close 1-3 to England number 3 Hannah Hicks in the women’s singles and the band 2 final to Yolanda King the previous day. Megan, who had 2 battles with her sister (won 1 lost 1), lost in the S-Final of the U21 singles today and lost in the Q-Final of band 1 yesterday. Meg was unfortunate not to beat Guernsey’s Alice Loveridge having had 3 match points.
Lewis Williams lost in the band 3 final to James Ward 0-3 and played very well the 2nd day with some fine wins throughout.
Other players to compete well from Wales were Dean and Scott Cundy, Nicole Hall, Stefan Jeczalik, Alex Prosser, Nathan Thomas, Julie Furber, Neil Wright, Ceri James, Alex O’Connell and Max Clews.
