British Champion


Ryan Oyler of St.Mellons TTC and a member of the Welsh Squad, crowned Under 18s British Champion.

Ryan represented Wales at the Six Nations Championships in Guernsey on the weekend of March 14th-16th. Ryan played some great table tennis over the weekend and found himself playing his team mate Callum Evans in the Quarter Finals after qualifying through his group of the Under 18’s singles, Ryan took a 3-0 win over his team mate, that was followed by a 3-2 win over England’s Jared Patel in the Semi Finals. Irish Junior Number 1 Ryan Ferrell now stood in Oyler’s way of becoming British Champion. Ryan Oyler took the challenge and put in a great performance and came away with a 3-0 win to secure the gold medal.

Ryan Oyler also took a Silver medal in the team event with his Welsh team mate Callum Evans.

The 16-year-old British Champion’s attentions will now turn to the European Youth Championship held in Italy. Ryan who will be an ambassador at this years Gemau Cymru 2014, will look to better his performance from last year and will push to try and be in the latter stages of the singles competition as well as helping his Welsh team mates out to finish in a higher position than last year in the team event.

Cardiff had another representative at the Six Nations Championships. This was 14-year-old Joshua Stacey of St.Mellons TTC who teamed up with Rhondda’s Jac Jenkins to take a bronze medal in the cadet team event.
