Joshua Stacey gets his call up

Joshua Stacey who attends Rumney high school took up table tennis in December 2011 after watching some of his friends enjoy a lunch club activity with regional coach Simon Oyler. Joshua then decided to give it a go and has never looked back since.

He now trains more than 10 hours per week and plays for his local club St.Mellons TTC. Josh is also part of the Cardiff Regional Squad.

In March he competed in his first Welsh National Championships and pulled of some great wins over players his age who have played table tennis for more than 3 years. The next step for Joshua was the Under 13's National Championships in which he lost to team mate Joseph Roberts in a thrilling semi-final match. Although he lost in the semi-finals Joshua had some great wins over Harry Langley and Cade Short who went onto win the tournament after losing to Josh in the group stage. Joshua then had some more great wins in the Junior Team Championships of Wales over Charlotte Slye and former Welsh player Ashley Perry, he also lost just lost out in the deciding set to a few other welsh players who are a few years older than him.

Joshua has been rewarded for his achievements by getting selected by Welsh National Coach Ryan Jenkins to represent his country at the Junior Luxembourg Open in June.

This is a massive event for Joshua and he will be looking forward to the experience and will look to improve and work hard leading up to the event.

He will be accompanied by: Lydia John, Laura Edwards, Callum Evans, Nicole Hall, Ryan Oyler
